September has seen a flurry of small press events within the Saint Louis Public Library system.  The Firecracker Press Talk and Demo was held at the beginning of September at Central Library. Eric Woods was invited to talk about his experience in letterpress and printmaking as well as the history of printmaking and typography design in St. Louis. After the talk, the audience was invited to make their own prints on a letterpress machine.

Basic Bookbinding and the Self-Care Zine Workshop both took place during the last week in September at the Schlafly and Buder libraries. At Schlafly, attendees learned how to create a decorative binding pattern using the stab binding technique.

Buder Library held the Self-Care Zine Workshop where patrons were supplied with everything they needed to make a personally tailored self-care zine

If you've missed the small press events at the library thus far, worry not! The apex of events, the Saint Louis Small Press Expo, has yet to occur. On October 13th, Central Library will host the 2018 lineup that boasts over 70 vendors and special guests Ben Passmore, Ed Luce, and Yes Yes Books. And, of course, while you're here, don't forget to check out the library's zine collection of nearly 300 zines and minicomics that are available for checkout.
